Sweet Things

Yesterday I found a small black change purse. It was nothing special, a plain, nondescript little item.

The real treasure was inside: a tiny pair of scissors and a yellowed handwritten note that said,

“Given to me by Mrs. May. 1937, they were her mothers”

The small note that was found in a vintage wallet

I imagine this note as the start to a short story by a Southern writer like Carson McCullars, Eudora Welty or Flannery O’Connor.

I wish that story existed.

I am a vintage clothing shop owner living and working in rural north Florida. I believe in adding a little vinegar and molasses to my greens, having my coffee outside whenever possible, and mixing something vintage into every room and every outfit.
